Jim Harbaugh's attorney publishes letter to Big Ten (Jim Harbaugh)

With Michigan's letter to the Big Ten now part of the public record, on Thursday Jim Harbaugh's attorney Tom Mars released his own letter to on behalf of his client.

The letter was addressed to Big Ten senior VP for policy Chad Hawley and released via Yahoo's Dan Wetzel.

In it, Mars makes many of the same points that Michigan did: that there is not sufficient evidence to suspend Harbaugh, that the Big Ten does not have the authority to properly suspend Harbaugh as laid out in its own Handbook, that there is no evidence Harbaugh was personally aware of Connor Stalions's actions, that Big Ten schools have conducted similar actions without any hint of scandal, and that a suspension would make Harbaugh really, really sad.

I may have made the last one up.

Mars argues, quoting from a Wetzel column, that Ohio State and Rutgers allegedly providing Purdue with Michigan's signals ahead of the Boilermakers date with Michigan in the 2022 Big Ten Championship was, essentially, no different that someone on the Michigan payroll attending or directing others to attend games of future Michigan opponents, ignoring that the latter is against NCAA rules and the former is not.

No. 3 Michigan heads to State College to face No. 10 Penn State in what will be, by far, the most difficult game the Wolverines have played to date. No. 1 Ohio State visits Ann Arbor two weeks after that.

With Michigan in hot pursuit of a national championship, Harbaugh and Michigan are trying to delay action by the Big Ten until after the completion of the season.

The Big Ten could unveil a suspension of Harbaugh at any point, which would not be subject to appeal within the conference, although Harbaugh's camp has indicated it will take the conference to court. And the letter published Thursday outlines the argument Harbaugh's attorneys will take if and when a suspension happens.
