Jimbo Fisher couldn't help but poke some fun at in-state foe TCU recently.
During an outing last night at the Fort Worth Aggies Club, Fisher made a light-hearted comment about TCU's run to the national title game last season. It started off sounding like a compliment, before taking a turn.
“They stayed healthy, they had a lot of experience and they got to where they had to get to, and then when they got to the SEC, it changed, didn’t it?”
2020 Jimbo Fisher, who finished 9-1, or even 2021 Jimbo who went 8-4 could probably get off pretty easy with that tongue-in-cheek comment during some fun off season banter, but after a 5-7 season with a loss to Sun Belt foe Appalachian State on the resume, plenty of folks took to social media to criticize one of the highest paid coaches in college football.
To be fair, Fisher was very complimentary of TCU following that comment, even bringing up some similarities he saw to that 2020 9-1 Aggies squad.
"They found those inches. We let them slip," Fisher would go on to share.
"In 2020, we made all of those plays. In 2022, we didn't make those plays. They made them last year. They found the inches. They found the chemistry. The secret to it is no secret, there is no coaching you put on it."
"It is about doing what you have to do each and every day to create the habits, so when the pressure time comes, they did."
Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs rode clutch performances and close wins to the national title game against Georgia, winning a total of six games by just one score including the 51-45 semifinal win over Michigan. Of course, they ultimately lost to Kirby Smart and UGA in the most lopsided bowl game performance in FBS history, 63-7.
