Longtime NFL special teams coordinator reportedly takes special assistant role at Texas (Steve Sarkisian)

Joe DeCamillis will reportedly join the Texas off-field staff, where he'll put the special in special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian. The news was first reported Saturday by Chip Brown of Horns247

DeCamillis is a 32-year NFL coaching veteran, all of which have been spent on special teams.

He coordinated special teams for the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. DeCamillis helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 and the Rams win Super Bowl LVI.

DeCamillis was among five coaches not retained by Sean McVay following LA's 5-12 title defense.

At Texas, he'll fill the role vacated by Gary Patterson, who took the position fresh off his departure from TCU and has since left to spend more time with family.

Jeff Banks returns for his third season as Texas's special teams coordinator and tight ends coach this fall. DeCamillis will likely provide an extra, experienced set of eyes in that phase of the game while also pitching in wherever Sarkisian asks.
