Sources: Kennesaw State dismisses head coach Brian Bohannon
Kennesaw State is dismissing head coach Brian Bohannon, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Sunday. On3 first reported the news, adding that co-offensive coordinator Chandler Burks will be the interim head coach.
Bohannon is the only head coach Kennesaw State has ever known. He led the program to a 56-16 win over East Tennessee State in the Owls' first game back in 2015, and by 2017 the program was in the FCS quarterfinals.
Kennesaw State won three Big South championships and reached four FCS playoffs from 2015-21, but the program has not enjoyed a winning season since, and now sits at 1-8 in its inaugural FBS season. The Owls lost in double overtime to UTEP on Saturday.
Bohannon exits the school with a 72-37 record and, more than that, having proven the program is a burgeoning winner at the FBS level.
Kennesaw State sits in an Atlanta exurb, one of the fastest growing areas in the country both in terms of overall population and football recruits. Thanks to Bohannon's success at the FCS level, the program won't lack for suitors as it looks for a new coach to lead them at the FBS level.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
Update: The school has announced the move. Burks will be the interim.
