Kenny Dillingham's new deal includes raise over $1.5 million plus huge bonus potential (Arizona State)

Kenny Dillingham arrived at his alma mater two seasons ago on a mission to "Activate the Valley."

Not only has he done that on the field, leading to the team to the College Football Playoff despite being picked to finish last in their first season in the Big 12, but has also rallied unprecedented support with Sun Devils fans and boosters, as well as local businesses in the desert.

That success activated a new deal for Dillingham, and today some of the details of that new contract have began to circulate.

Chris Karpman shares that Dillingham's new deal will pay him $5.8 million in 2025, which will mark a raise of nearly $1.7 million once it is formally approved by the Board of Regents.

Each January 1st, that amount will increase $100k.

The deal also includes "extension trigger events" which include on year extensions for;:

  • 6 regular season wins and an invite to an NCAA-sanctioned bowl game
  • 7 regular season wins - one year extension with an additional increase of $100k applicable to the immediately succeeding contract year's annual salary and each contract year's annual salary thereafter during the term
  • 8 regular season wins - one year extension with an additional increase of $200k applicable to the immediately succeeding contract year's annual salary and each contract year's annual salary thereafter during the term
  • 9 regular season wins - One year extension with an additional increase of $250k applicable to the immediately succeeding contract year's annual salary and each contract year's annual salary thereafter during the term
  • 10 regular season wins - one year extension with an additional increase of $350k applicable to the immediately succeeding contract year's annual salary and each contract year's annual salary thereafter during the term
  • 11 regular season wins - one year extension with an additional increase of $450k applicable to the immediately succeeding contract year's annual salary and each contract year's annual salary thereafter during the term

The contract takes him through December 31, 2029, or the team's last game of the 2029 season

Karpman adds that Dillingham's deal will remain bonus-heavy, with incentives that include up to $4 million for a College Football Playoff championship, $3 million for a win in the CFP semi, and $2.5 million for a CFP quarterfinal win.

More incentive details can be found below, courtesy of Karpman.

Dillingham would receive a $1 million signing bonus within 30 days of the contract's execution.
