Kentucky is currently 2-0 after wins over Ball State and Eastern Kentucky, but today there's a uneasy feeling on campus.
Earlier today, offensive coordinator Liam Coen suffered a medical episode and was taken to the hospital.
The school released a statement as follows:
On Sept. 10, 2023, at approximately 12:40pm university of Kentucky assistant football coach Liam Coen had a medical episode while at work at UK's football offices on campus. He is currently in good condition at UK Chandler Hospital while doctors and medical personnel continue to monitor him and he is expected to be released Monday. Out of respect for his privacy and that of his family, we will have no additional comment at this time.
Coen rejoined the Kentucky football program prior to this year after serving one season as the offensive coordinator for Sean McVay and the LA Rams.
His return to the NFL, where he worked for three seasons on McVays staff working with receivers initially before moving to quarterbacks, happened after a breakout season leading the offense in Lexington. In his first season calling the offense at the college level, Coen led the Wildcats to a 5th spot nationally in scoring offense back in 2021 to coincide with a top 10 offense in yardage as well.
While he's set to be released tomorrow, please join us in keeping Coen in your prayers.
