On Wednesday, Tulsa put the finishing touches on Kevin Wilson's first full recruiting class as the leader of the Golden Hurricane.
A 27-man class populated primarily by guys from Texas and Oklahoma, the algorithm behind the 247Sports composite rated the group of 26 3-stars and a lone 2-star as the 54th best in the nation -- one spot below Iowa State, and one spot above Cal.
But Wilson rated his class first, and he has his own criteria for doing so. In Wilson's view, it was the best class in the country signed without the promise of a single NIL dollar.
"This is hands down, the No. 1 class in the nation, non-NIL," Wilson said in December. "This is an old-fashioned, build some relationships, get to know some guys, share with them the education opportunity, share with them the value of the city, share with them a chance to be part of a program that's been building."
Though Tulsa's staff does not use NIL as an inducement, it doesn't mean recruits won't ask. And Wilson has an answer prepared.
Kevin Wilson talking about his 2024 recruiting class. One of the best in program history at Tulsa. Says it was done with zero NIL dollars. This all-timer quote too:

“Lotta kids asking these days ‘What am I gonna get (NIL)?’ Tell them ‘You’re gonna get yelled at.”
