Ohio State has hired the son of associate head coach/defensive line coach Larry Johnson, the program confirmed to Eleven Warriors on Tuesday. Tony Johnson will be an analyst for the Buckeyes.
Johnson announced the arrival of his son, Tony, while receiving an award from the National Football Foundation Columbus Chapter on Monday night.
“It’s kind of cool to see him walking down the hallway and we’re in the same building,” Larry Johnson said. “It hasn’t happened in my career in a long time. I can’t be prouder of that.”
Tony Johnson played wide receiver at Penn State from 2000-03, where he caught 107 passes and 11 touchdowns while Johnson was the Nittany Lions' defensive line coach.
Johnson's other son, also named Larry, was a unanimous All-American running back for Penn State from 1999-02 before becoming a two-time All-Pro running back across nine NFL seasons.
Tony Johnson worked for 10 years in the construction business and spent the past two years coaching at an Ohio middle school.
The 2024 campaign will be the elder Johnson's 11th season at Ohio State, following 18 seasons at Penn State. He would be a first ballot College Football Assistant Coaching Hall of Fame member if such a thing existed; two of his former pupils, Nick Bosa and Chase Young, were seen Sunday night as they continually harassed Patrick Mahomes throughout the Super Bowl.
