Louisiana reportedly fills defensive coordinator job with NFL veteran assistant (Jim Salgado)

After losing defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan to Michigan, Louisiana is reportedly filling their key opening on defense with a veteran NFL assistant.

Jim Salgado is joining the Ragin Cajuns as their new defensive play caller, Adam Schefter shares.

After six seasons with the Bills, Salgado landed an opportunity in East Lansing to coach the corners at Michigan State this past fall.

In late November he joined the Commanders staff on an interim basis following the dismissal of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer. He worked with the defensive backfield during his fill-in stint in DC.

Salgado previously spent six seasons in Buffalo with the Bills, starting as a defensive assistant before moving on to work with nickels and safeties after three seasons.

The hire fills one of the last remaining FBS defensive coordinator openings, which we've kept track of all off season via our 2023-24 NFL Defensive Coordinator Tracker page.
