LSU special teams coordinator Brian Polian is moving into an executive off-the-field role with the Tigers, sources told FootballScoop on Tuesday. ESPN first reported the news.
Polian will transition into a general manager-type role where he'll assist Brian Kelly manage the Tigers' roster, the transfer portal, and the team's relationship to various NIL efforts, sources said.
Polian's move means Kelly will also be in the market for a special teams coordinator.
Polian joined Kelly in the move from South Bend after five seasons on staff at Notre Dame. In addition to coaching special teams, Polian handled similar roles to the one he'll have now as the Fighting Irish's recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach.
Polian is a former head coach himself, serving four seasons at Nevada. He took the Wolf Pack to bowl games in 2014 and '15.
A former John Carroll University linebacker, Polian joined the profession as a GA on Nick Saban's 1997 Michigan State staff and has made stops at Buffalo, Baylor, UCF, Stanford and Texas A&M in addition to Notre Dame and LSU. He has primarily coached special teams while working with running backs and tight ends.
