Mack Brown reportedly plans to return to lead North Carolina in 2025 (North Carolina)

After starting the season 3-0 with wins over Minnesota, Charlotte and North Carolina Central (FCS), UNC was blown out by James Madison 50-70, leading many to wonder if Mack Brown's days were numbered in Chapel Hill.

After that loss, Brown asked his players if he should remain the head coach of the program, and players rallied around him.

However, that loss ended up sparking three additional losses (at Duke, then home against Pitt and Georgia Tech).

The good news is the Heels have rebounded since then, beating Virginia, Florida State and Wake Forest to improve to 6-4.

Now bowl eligible, Mack is reportedly telling those in the football building that he's going to return to lead the team.

247 is reporting that Mack is telling people at UNC, including staff and players, that he plans to return to lead the Tar Heels "beyond this season."

Brown is in his sixth season of his second stint leading the Tar Heels. While he has led the program to the postseason each of those years, they've lost four straight postseason games and will have an opportunity to put one in the win column after this season.

Currently 73 years old, the college coaching veteran who led Texas to an undefeated national title in 2005 will continue to be the subject of negative recruiting regarding his age and how much longer he will stick around.

For now, according to the report, he will be back for more, just two years removed from a top finish in the ACC Coastal division.

Mack Brown and North Carolina have Boston College (on the road) this weekend, before wrapping up their season against NC State in the regular season finale.
