Justin Watts has spent the past nine seasons at Appalachian State, adding the assistant head coach title before the 2021 season.
Today, Duke announced Watts as their new tight ends coach.
Watts has spent the past 18 years at just two schools, something that has become quite rare in college coaching.
At Appalachian State, Watts also served as the program's passing game coordinator, where they ranked in the top 30 in college football in scoring offense, pass efficiency and total offense.
Before moving to tight ends for the Mountaineers, Watts worked with the wide receivers and served as the program's recruiting coordinator.
Prior to his time at App State, Watts spent nearly a decade at MTSU coaching the receivers, and also has prior experience at UT-Chattanooga (FCS) working with their wide outs.
A five-year letter winner as a receiver at Clemson, Watts started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with his alma mater working on the offensive side of the ball with the receivers and then offensive line.
