Massachusetts Maritime becomes latest college football program to hire woman to coaching staff (Meghan Ford Coach)

Meghan Ford will be the wide receivers coach at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, she announced Tuesday.

MMA is a Division III school located in Buzzards Bay, Mass. The Buccaneers compete in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Ford served as a student assistant working with the wide receivers while pursuing her Bachelor's degree at Coastal Carolina, which she obtained earlier this year. She previously accepted a quality control role at Harvard, but will now transition to an on-field role with Massachusetts Maritime.

Ford played football at Whitman-Hanson High School in Hanson, Mass., less than an hour's drive from her new employer; her MMA bio lists her as a wide receiver, but a Hudl tape created in her freshman year listed her as a offensive and defensive tackle.

Either way, Ford has been heavily devoted to building a coaching career, for as long as she can. She was a training camp intern with the Kansas City Chiefs last summer and participated in a number of women's coaching forums. Ford is positioned on the far right in the top photo.

Ford earned rave reviews in her time at Coastal and in her brief stint at Harvard.

Massachusetts Maritime is preparing for its 20th season under head coach Jeremy Cameron. The Bucs went 2-8 in 2023 and open their season Sept. 6 at rival New York Maritime.
