Matt Rhule explains why day of Carolina Panthers firing was 'one of the proudest of my career' (Matt Rhule)

Matt Rhule spoke to the Texas High School Coaches Association over the summer and, in a clip that surfaced online this week, he talked about the three things that he thinks all leaders need to accomplish.

I found his final point to be the most compelling.

Rhule preached on the requirement for extreme ownership, no matter the situation. The captain of the Titanic should go down with the ship. The captain of the Microscopic, a cardboard boat built to cross a 30-yard wide creek, should also go down with the ship.

"There's nothing worse than coaches who don't own it. There's nothing worse than coaches who say, 'Man, I told them a hundred times.' There's nothing worse than coaches who say, 'Man, he just can't...' Own it."

Owning the fact that I was leaving, I was proud of them, and I was grateful. Not slinking off into the night. Not being a sheep, standing there like a lion and talking to them, and going down with the ship.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
