Sources: Miami staffer, and former assistant under Todd Monken, leaving for opportunity at Navy
Navy's new tight ends coach comes to Annapolis from Miami, and arrives with experience coaching the position under Todd Monken.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Jon Williams is expected to be the Midshipmen's new tight ends coach.
He served in a key off-field role for Mario Cristobal's new Miami staff this past season.
As a part of Monken's staff, Williams served as assistant head coach and tight ends coach. He also held the all-important title of director of player personnel for the program as well.
Before joining Monken's staff at Southern Miss, Williams rose to the head coaching job at Itawamaba CC (MS), where he led them to three runner up finishes in their conference and one playoff appearance while climbing as high as #4 in the NJCAA rankings at one point.
He will join a slightly revamped Navy staff under first-year head coach Brian Newberry, who served as the program's defensive coordinator under Ken Niumatalolo. Newberry brought in new offensive coordinator Grant Chesnut, who had been at Kennesaw State (FCS - GA) as their offensive coordinator and offensive line coach since 2014.
