Jim Harbaugh is not letting his 3-game suspension go to waste.
After self-imposing the 3-game suspension as part of the NCAA's ongoing investigation into the program's alleged recruiting violations during the COVID dead period, Michigan will dole out Harbaugh's game day duties to assistants among his staff.
Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will be the "game day" coach when No. 2 Michigan opens with East Carolina next Saturday. Special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh (first half) and running backs coach Mike Hart (second half) will split the UNLV game on Sept. 9, and offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore will lead the team Sept. 16 versus Bowling Green.
Additionally, strength coach Ben Herbert will serve as associate head coach for all three games, and Jack Harbaugh, Jim's father, will continue in his role as assistant head coach.
"I'm certain that all will be impressed with the four coaches' ability to direct and manage the game," said Harbaugh. "It's been well documented that we have a very talented coaching staff and I believe that all 10 assistant coaches will be head coaches in the near future. They are all capable of leading a team at an elite level. I know that everyone will handle their responsibilities and help our players to be the best version of themselves on and off the field this fall and beyond."
Harbaugh will return to the sidelines for Michigan's Sept. 23 game against Rutgers.
