While Sherrone Moore's promotion to head coach kept much of the offensive staff intact, the defensive side of the ball for the Wolverines will have a lot of new faces.
Jesse Minter (Chargers), Rick Minter (Chargers) Jay Harbaugh (Seahawks), Steve Clinkscale (Chargers) and Mike Elston (Chargers) are all headed for the NFL following their national title run, according to various reports, and the support staff has also lost some key members as well, including Doug Mallory who left to coach the defensive backs with the Ravens.
Sherrone is bringing in Wink Martindale as his new defensive coordinator, as the NFL veteran brings recent stops coordinating defenses for the Giants and Ravens to the table.
A recent report from Rivals shares that a fellow Big Ten coach could be on his way to Ann Arbor to work with the defensive front.
Josh Henschke shares that Wisconsin defensive line coach Greg Scruggs and Michigan are working towards a deal that would bring him east.
Widely considered a rising star in coaching, Scruggs has risen from director of player development at Cincinnati under Luke Fickell, to his on-field spot working with the defensive line after just two seasons.
He left Cincinnati for an assistant defensive line job with the Jets in 2022 before reuniting with Fickell in Madison.
Scruggs was making $400k annually at Wisconsin, and Michigan was paying Mike Elston a base salary of $625k last season, which was his second in Ann Arbor after previously spending over a decade at Notre Dame.
The move would fill the defensive line spot with a proven and young coach, with openings still to fill at linebacker and in the secondary.
