Michigan State is suspending Mel Tucker, according to a number of reports.
Initially Brett McMurphy reported that Tucker was being fired, but many outlets have now stated that not to be the case and that Tucker has been suspended. MSU will allow the Title IX investigation to conclude before making any dismissal official.
Secondary coach Harlon Barnett will serve as interim head coach, with Mark Dantonio expected to assist in a smaller, undefined role, the reports add.
The news comes on the heels of a report of damning sexually charged allegations aimed at Tucker from well-known sexual violence speaker Brenda Tracey, who titled a Title IX complaint last December.
Tracey has accused Tucker of making sexual comments toward her and masturbating on a phone call, after the two had developed a relationship over the course of Tracy's visits to the Michigan State program to educate players and staff. She also has alleged numerous other incidents.
Tucker told an investigator the encounter was consensual.
Earlier today, the school announced a press conference for 5pm EST, to discuss the future of the football program.
Tucker signed a 10-year, $95 million contract extension back in 2021, that includes a cause that would allow Michigan State to fire him if he were to "engage in any conduct which constitutes moral turpitude" or any behavior which has embarrassed the university.

Update: Athletic director Allan Haller has confirmed at their 5p presser that Tucker has been suspended without pay.
