Standoffs between coaches and their respective schools happen every off season, but the standoff between Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State over the past 18 hours or so felt different.
After Gundy decided to fire both of his coordinators following the worst record of his head coaching career that ended in a 3-9 season, the Board of Regents held a special board meeting Friday morning to discuss Gundy's future leading the program.
They came out of that two-hour meeting with a plan to restructure Gundy's deal, along with a deadline in mind for Gundy to come to them with an answer.
Gundy reportedly asked for some additional time to process the proposal beyond the set timeline, and late last night word began to circulate that talks were trending in a positive direction for the program's winningest head coach to return for a 21st season.
Today, just after the noon kickoff of the conference title games, multiple reports came out to share the "standoff" between Gundy and the school has been resolved and the two parties have agreed in principle on a restructured contract to keep him with the school.
Details of what that new deal looks like has not yet been disclosed.
When it does, we will provide the details and ripple effect the new deal has had.
Until then, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
