Mississippi Valley State adding key assistant from national title staff (Sam Parker)

Sam Parker has spent the last several years an integral member of Ferris State's rise to a Division II national power under head coach Tony Annese.

Now, Parker is set to make the jump to the Division I level.

Sources tell FootballScoop Parker is joining the Mississippi Valley State (FCS) staff, where he will coach the offensive line and also serve as offensive coordinator.

This fall would have marked the former offensive lineman's ninth season on staff at Ferris where he held the title of run game coordinator in addition to offensive line coach.

It's not common you see a Division II assistant leave for a coordinator opportunity a the FCS level, but Parker's move and promotion is a testament to how other coaches have admired the program that has been built in Big Rapids.

Ferris State has won three of the past four national titles at the Division II level, including back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022 thanks in large part to impressive offensive numbers behind a Parker-led front five. Parker has proven to be a top recruiter and developed talent at an impressive clip to where the Bulldogs have had the ability on occasion to rotate over 10 guys up front during games at times.

This past fall Ferris State averaged nearly 500 yards of total offense and 45 points per game in their run to the national title

Back in January, Ferris State offensive lineman Lawrence Hatter announced his transfer to Michigan after earning First-Team All American honors.
