Monday night, for the first time in NFL history, a game will be officiated by an all Black crew. This historic moment will be front and center when the Buccaneers take on the Rams. Lead by Jerome Boger, the crew will include Greg Steed, Julian Mapp, Carl Johnson, Dale Shaw, Anthony Jeffries and Barry Anderson.

With 17 seasons of officiating under his belt, Jerome Boger said, “I’m proud of my heritage and excited about my participation in this historic game.”

In a statement to ESPN, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said, “This historic Week 11 crew is a testament to the countless and immeasurable contributions of Black officials to the game, their exemplary performance, and to the power of inclusion that is the hallmark of this great game”.

This season has already brought us many historical moments. We have witnessed the MAC’s first all Black officiating crew, we watched as 3 women made NFL history by being on the field in official capacities and more. As the NFL continues to work towards inclusivity this is another strong step in that direction.

This is awesome.
