Longtime NFL coach Monte Kiffin died Thursday in Oxford, Mississippi, Ole Miss announced this afternoon. Kiffin was 84.
Widely considered an innovator on the defensive side of the ball, Kiffin is perhaps best known for the rapport built with his players and fellow coaches. Monte was always willing to talk ball and talk life. He will be missed by too many to name.
The former NC State head coach would go on to see prominence in the league, serving as defensive coordinator for the Vikings, Saints, Bucs and Cowboys.
Kiffin would serve as defensive coordinator for Jon Gruden to win Super Bowl XXXVII and would later be added to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor.
In his later years he teamed up with his son Lane and enjoyed life to the fullest spending countless hours with family and friends.
Our prayers and condolences go out to the Kiffin family. May he rest in peace knowing he served his Lord well. God bless.
