NAIA program hires former standout to fill head coaching job

To fill their head coaching position, Campbellsville is bringing a former player back home.

Jacob Russell, one of the most decorated players in program history, has been announced as the new head coach.

A record-setting quarterback in his two years with the program, Russell is second in school history in career passing yards with over 6,700 and second in career touchdowns with 66. He also holds the school record for passing touchdowns in a season (38).

He arrives back at his alma mater after spending the last few seasons as the head coach at Kentucky Christian (NAIA).

There, the offensive-minded Russell had defensive units that first in the country in pass defense and were fourth in turnovers forced last fall. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the ball, his teams finished with the second most points and yards in program history last fall.

Before landing the Kentucky Christian job, Russell was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Union College (D-III - KY), where they showed marked improvement in his two seasons there.

He takes over a Campbellsville program that finished 2-8 last season, and ended the year on an eight-game losing streak.
