When a performance that can only be described as utter domination occurs on game day, the phrase "put up video game numbers" gets tossed around a lot.
Well a quarterback at the NAIA level put up some numbers that could only be described that way on Saturday.
UPike (NAIA - KY) quarterback Lee Kirkland completed 41 of 47 passes for 646 yards against St. Andrew's (NAIA - NC).
As if that stat line wasn't impressive enough, he tossed 11 touchdowns on the day - which ties a college football record set in 1991 by David Klingler of Houston.
Kirkland, who stands 6 foot 6 and 265 pounds, threw more touchdowns Saturday than 21 FBS teams have thrown all season long.
Those teams that have just 10 or less throwing touchdowns on the year include teams like Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida State, Iowa, Army, and Northwestern.
Not surprisingly with a stat line like that, Pikeville won the game 90-14.
Kirkland and UPike, who are 5-5 surprisingly (with a 5-1 record in league play), will take their red-hot offense into the NAIA playoffs where they will travel to Baker (KS) in first-round action.
