Netflix to debut Florida Gators documentary chronicling Urban Meyer, Tim Tebow era (Tim Tebow)

Just as college football season is poised to kick off in little more than two months, Netflix is going to wade into the sport with an inside documentary on one of the most dominant -- and controversial runs of the past two decades in the sport.

With posts on social media revealing the impending documentary, Netflix is delving into the uber-successful, highly dramatic run of Urban Meyer, Tim Tebow, Aaron Hernandez and others who helped the Florida Gators win two national championships and return to the upper tier of college football from 2006-09.

Former Gators star linebacker Brandon Siler shared news of the upcoming documentary Saturday on social media.

The Gators experienced remarkable on-field success during Meyer's run atop the Swamp, with BCS national titles following his 2006 and 2008 seasons. Meyer, citing health problems, abruptly retired from Florida shortly thereafter but then returned to coaching at Ohio State last decade.

And those Florida teams, for all their on-field success, nearly matched headlines for negative events off the field -- with a litany of players arrested, other controversies and the eventual arrest and conviction for murder of Hernandez, who starred at tight end for the Gators before his successful NFL career was halted due to his criminal activity.

Hernandez committed suicide in prison.
