North Carolina Central adds FCS coordinator to staff

Mississippi Valley State defensive coordinator Jesse Thompson will be the safeties coach at North Carolina Central.

Mississippi Valley State defensive coordinator Jesse Thompson is expected to join the North Carolina Central staff as safeties coach.

NC Central has not announced the move, but Thompson posted it on his Twitter account.

Thompson arrived to Mississippi Valley State ahead of the 2023 season, spending one campaign as the Delta Devils' associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach. He spent four seasons as Northern Arizona's secondary coach prior to that.

At NAU, Thompson developed two All-Big Sky First Team safeties, including current Detroit Lions cornerback Khalil Dorsey, and his unit produced three turnovers in NAU's Sept. 18, 2021 win at Arizona, the program's first victory over the Wildcats since 1932.

Thompson previously served as the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma Panhandle State and as the defensive backs coach at Delta State (D-II - MS).
