North Carolina releases details of Bill Belichick's contract (Bill Belichick North Carolina Contract)

It's really happening, and we've got the contract details to prove it.

After his introductory press conference on earlier in the day -- Belichick looked dapper in his argyle tie -- UNC released details of its new head coach's contract on Thursday afternoon.

As reported Wednesday, Belichick signed a 5-year contract at $10 million per year. He'll join a group of seven, now eight, college football head coaches earning eight figures per year. Mack Brown made $5 million in 2024.

The first three years of Belichick's deal are guaranteed, Years 4 and 5 are not. It's unclear whether it's the coach's or the school's choice to pick up the final two years of the deal.

Belichick would owe $10 million if he left UNC before June 1, 2025, and only $1 million thereafter.

Additionally, Belichick will start picking up bonuses once UNC reaches its eighth regular season win ($150,000), and will earn $50,000 for each victory beyond that. He can make $200,000 for reaching the ACC Championship and an extra $100,000 for winning it.

Belichick's bowl bonuses start at $150,000 for simply reaching the postseason and top out at $1.75 million for winning North Carolina's first national championship. He'll also be paid $250,000 for placing UNC in the final College Football Playoff Top 25, and $500,000 for getting the Tar Heels into the top five.

All told, Belichick can earn $3.5 million in bonuses.

Additionally, North Carolina has earmarked $10 million for his assistant coaching salary pool, $1 million his strength staff, $5.3 million for his support staff, and $13 million for revenue sharing.
