David Braun took over Northwestern as the interim head coach during one of the darkest times in program history, following the dismissal of longtime head coach Pat Fitzgerald and hazing allegations within the program.
Braun has led the Wildcats to a 5-5 mark.
Pete Thamel shares today that Braun is now expected to be the team's permanent head coach.
Braun has led the program to non-conference wins over UTEP and Howard with wins in the Big Ten coming against Minnesota, Maryland and a monumental win over Wisconsin last weekend at Camp Randall Stadium.
Before arriving in Evanston, where he had been hired to be Fitzgerald's defensive coordinator, Braun was the defensive coordinator at FCS power North Dakota State, where he helped lead one of the top defenses in the country to two national titles.
Prior to that stop in Fargo, Braun was an FCS, Division II, and NAIA assistant and coordinator at Winona State, Culver Stockton, UC Davis, and Northern Iowa.
Northwestern has two games remaining on the year, Purdue at home and then Illinois on the road.
Both very winnable games, a win in either game would get Northwestern to bowl eligible, which seemed like a long shot at the beginning of the year.
