The Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) confirmed on Thursday that the December signing period is now the Early December signing period.
To get out in front of the Transfer Portal, the December period will now become the three day period beginning the Wednesday after the FBS regular season concludes. In 2024, that will be Dec. 4-6.
While this means some teams will have to sign players days before playing for a conference championship, the previous calendar called for eight teams to sign players days before the opening weekend of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.
"The CCA supports providing high school and two-year college prospective student-athletes with the opportunity to sign NLIs before coaches turn their focus to four-year transfers during the opening of the Division I transfer window in December," the CCA said.
The CCA has also tabled a proposal to open a three-day window beginning the last Wednesday in June. That signing period could open in 2025.
