Pac-12 stands by ruling in Oregon State-Washington game (pac-12 refs)

The Pac-12 on Sunday night defended the spot that ruled Oregon State running back Jermar Jefferson short of the line to gain on a crucial play in Saturday night's loss to Washington.

On a 4th-and-1 from the Washington 5 on the second play of the fourth quarter with his team trailing 24-21, Jefferson appeared from the TV angle to reach the 4-yard line, and the Pac-12 Network TV crew instantly reacted as if Jefferson achieved the first down.

That reaction was shared by viewers.

However, the side judge ruled Jefferson short and a conference investigation found there was not sufficient evidence to say the crew made the incorrect call.

Here is the Pac-12's statement.

Crucially, the play occurred in the first minute of the fourth quarter, not the last.

The Beavers got the ball twice more after the turnover on downs. Their first possession ended in a punt after six plays, and their second resulted in an interception on fourth down. Washington won the game, 27-21.
