Pete Sterbick -- 2022 Division II Coordinator of the Year (Colorado School Of Mines Football)

FootballScoop is proud to announce that Pete Sterbick (Colorado School of Mines) is the 2022 FootballScoop Division II Coordinator of the Year, presented by AstroTurf as selected by prior winners.

It started with John Matocha.

The Orediggers' quarterback was the point man on the most fearsome offense in Division II. The senior led D2 in passing, hitting 348-of-506 passes (68.8 percent) for 4,778 yards (341.3 per game, 9.44 per attempt) with 52 touchdowns against just eight interceptions.

He threw as may touchdowns as incompletions (four) in an 84-10 avalanching of Adams State; hit 20-of-28 passes for 339 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 48-20 blowout of South Dakota Mines; went 24-of-36 for 384 yards with five touchdowns and no picks in a 54-16 triumph over New Mexico Highlands; again threw as many touchdowns as incompletions in an 80-0 demolition of Fort Lewis; and played a near-perfect game in the win over Shepherd in the Division II semifinals, connecting on 28-of-34 attempts for 371 yards with five scores and no interceptions.

Two receivers topped the 1,300-yard and 13-touchdown mark on the season.

Though Colorado School of Mines boasted a devastating passing offense, the Orediggers did not exclusively hurt teams through the air.

The club ran for 2,441 yards and 39 touchdowns over the course of the season, led by Michael Zeman's 1,303 yards and 21 scores.

As a team, Colorado Mines tied an RMAC record with 12 touchdowns in the Adams State win and topped the 40-point barrier 11 times in 14 games. The Orediggers led Division II in scoring (44.6 points per game), first downs, red zone offense, and passing efficiency

Matocha became the program's third Harlon Hill Award winner as the top overall player in Division II in addition to a collection of other national player of the year awards and First Team All-America honors, center Matt Armendariz won the Rimington Award as the top player at his position in Division II, and guard Zach Heckman on the RMAC Summit Award as the undergraduate with the highest GPA in the conference.

Running back Michael Zeman, receiver Josh Johnston, tackle Levi Johnson joined Matocha and Armendariz on the First Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, tackle Nic Van de Graaf made Second Team All-RMAC, receiver Max McLeod and guard Steele Petty were Honorable Mention All-RMAC performers, and running back Landon Walker was the RMAC Freshman of the Year.
