Pete Thamel: "No danger Clay Helton will be fired before the season is over." (Featured)

Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel wrote following last night's game that despite the pending AD hire and the results on the field, "There’s no danger Helton will be fired before the season is over."

With last night's loss vs Oregon the Trojans now stand 5-4 with three games remaining.

Nearly everyone believes this will be Clay Helton's final season leading the Trojans. With multiple reports that Mike Bohn is set to be named director of athletics this week, there has been plenty of speculation that SC will make an announcement soon that this will be Helton's final season and the search for the next head coach will commence in the open.

However, Thamel reports there is no chance of that happening before the end of the season. He goes on to say the selection of Bohn as the new director of athletics is a "clear sign" USC President Carol Folt wants to go in a different direction than Urban Meyer as the next head coach of the Trojans. "If they wanted to go and get Urban Meyer, they'd need to hire someone he has a strong relationship with." Thamel added, "The frontrunner for USC to target likely shifts to Penn State's James Franklin..."

Thamel mentions a host of other potential candidates including Bob Stoops, Kyle Whittingham, Matt Rhule, PJ Fleck and more.
