A few years back, Eastern Michigan decided to get gray turf for the football field so that it resembled concrete, in an effort to further the message of head coach Chris Creighton and his staff that they'd play anyone, anytime, anywhere. They also gave the field a new moniker, and it's now affectionately referred to as "The Factory".
Eastern Michigan released their new uniforms and helmets last night and they have clearly taken that rebranding to heart, as the new threads and helmets have a very "factory" feel to them. Maybe it's the diamond plated pattern on the jersey numbers, and the "E" decal on the helmet.
I remember Oregon using the diamond plating pattern on the shoulders of their jersey's, and the knees of their pants in the late 2000's, and they pulled it off pretty well. We'll have to dig into the reactions on social media to see if fans are just as excited about EMU's foray into diamond plating.
EMU opens up the 2016 season at The Factory against Mississippi Valley State on Friday September 2, 2016.
