Pioneer League endorses six game season for spring 2021

The Pioneer Football League has announced its plan for a six game conference schedule for the 2021 spring season. Back in early August it was the seventh FCS conference to postpone its fall 2020 season.

The agreed upon plan, advanced by the Pioneer League's athletic directors and coaches, will allow for the league's teams to play six games between March 13th and April 17th. Teams are also able to add non-league games to their schedule at their own discretion. The league champion will be an automatic qualifier for the FCS playoffs. The FCS Championship is scheduled for May 15th or May 16th in Texas.

The release from the league makes it abundantly clear that it is aware of the ever-changing challenge that COVID-19 presents saying, "The League fully recognizes that this is an aspirational plan given the current severe state of the coronavirus pandemic and the many unknowns in the coming months for the country, the diverse set of states in which our schools exist, and the PFL institutions themselves." Because of this, teams may opt out of the spring season at any time.

The league will release the schedule at a later date.
