The Amway preseason coaches poll - also known among coaches as the least important poll of the season - was released today.
Although coaches don't put a whole lot of stock into preseason rankings of any kind, the poll does provide an interesting look at who coaches view as the top teams in the country heading into 2016.
Unsurprisingly, Alabama topped the poll with 55 first place votes, followed by Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida State and Ohio State rounding out the top five.
For those unfamiliar with how the poll works, 64 head coaches submitted a top 25 with a first place vote worth 25 points, a second place vote worth 24, and on down the line to one point awarded for #25.
Here's how the top 25 shook out.
- Alabama (55 first-place votes)
- Clemson (7)
- Florida State (1)
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
- Tennessee (1)
- Michigan State
- Ole Miss
- Oklahoma State
- North Carolina
Other programs that just missed the cut were Miami, Wisconsin, Utah,, Boise State and Washington State.
Some of the more interesting week one match ups pitting teams on this list against one another are; #3 Oklahoma against #13 Houston, #6 LSU vs. #27 Wisconsin, #16 Georgia vs. #20 North Carolina, and #12 Ole Miss vs. # 4 Florida State.
