After one of the most decorated playing careers in both college and NFL history for any defensive back, Ed Reed has dabbled in the world of coaching.
He even had an almost-one-month stint atop the Bethune-Cookman program two years ago before the two sides separated.
Now, Reed is at the center of another coaching search for an HBCU program.
Several sources tell FootballScoop that Reed has spoken with Alabama A&M about its coaching vacancy and is a finalist for the job. Legendary former Alcorn star player and coach Fred McNair also spoke with the school about the head coaching post, open since the school parted ways three weeks ago with Connell Maynor.
Reed has dabbled in coaching since his Pro Football Hall of Fame playing career ended, working on staff to help coach the secondary for.a season with the Buffalo Bills.
He's also helmed multiple positions at his alma mater, Miami, where he starred as an All-America safety for the Hurricanes in the early 2000s.
At The U, Reed has served in multiple front-office roles for the football program including as Miami's chief of staff in 2020-21 as well as a senior football advisor in 2022, Mario Cristobal's first season at the helm of his alma mater.
Reed also has visited with his close friend, Deion Sanders, since Sanders took over the Colorado program prior to the 2023 season.
Multiple sources told FootballScoop that Reed met earlier this month with Alabama A&M officials during the weekend of the Celebration Bowl.
The Bulldogs parted with Maynor following his seven seasons at the helm of their program, which has not posted a winning season since their 2021 campaign.
