Benedict College is set to name Ron Dickerson, Jr., as its next head coach, according to The State. The announcement will be made in a press conference later today.
Benedict College is an HBCU located in Columbia, S.C.
Dickerson spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at West Florida, helping the Argonauts go 20-6 with a trip to the Division II semifinals during that span.
He replaces Chennis Berry, who took the head coaching job at South Carolina State after an extraordinarily successful run in Columbia. Following a 5-5 debut season, Berry guided the Tigers to a 22-2 mark over the past two seasons, with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Benedict claimed the D2 HBCU national championship each of the past two seasons.
Dickerson previously served as the head coach at Gardner-Webb from 2011-12, becoming the first Black head coach in Big South Conference history.
The son of former Temple and South Alabama head coach Ron Dickerson, Sr., the younger Dickerson played for the Kansas City Chiefs and coached previously at Ole Miss, Morgan State, Louisiana-Monroe, Jackson State and Missouri State.
