Report: Andy Reid joins the ranks of highest paid coaches with new contract

Fresh off his first Super Bowl win as head coach, Andy Reid has received a new contract with the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero tweets.

Pelissero shares that Reid's new 6-year contract puts him among the highest paid coaches in the NFL. At just 62 years old, and with an emerging superstar leading his team in 2019 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, Reid has a lot of good football years ahead of him.

Details of the contract have not yet been revealed.

According to this CBS Sports piece from back in January, Reid's 2019 salary had him tied for 8th among the highest paid head coaches in the NFL. The coaches in front of him topping the list were Bill Belichick ($12 million), Pete Carroll ($11 million), Jon Gruden ($10 million), Sean Payton ($9.8 million), John Harbaugh ($9 million), Matt Rhule ($8.5 million), Sean McVay ($8.5 million) and then all tied at $8 million a piece were Mike Tomlin, Dan Quinn, and Reid. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan also signed a new multi-year deal back in June that adds him to that prestigious list, Albert Breer adds.

All of those guys, outside of first-year NFL head coach Matt Rhule, have been to the Super Bowl, and six of them have brought home a Super Bowl title to their city.

Compare that to the salaries of the top coaches in college football with Dabo Swinney leading off the list at over $9.3 million, followed by Alabama's Nick Saban at over $8.85 million and Michigan's Jim Harbaugh at $7.5 million.
