Report: Dan Mullen adding former college head coach to his off-field staff

Dan Mullen is bolstering his off-the-field staff by adding a former college head coach and longtime college and NFL coaching veteran, according to a report.

Pete Thamel tweets this afternoon that former Syracuse and UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni is joining the Gators staff as a special assistant to the head coach.

Pasqualoni, who led Syracyse from 1992-2004 and UConn from 2011-13, spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

With the Orangemen, Pasqualoni went 107-59-1, including a hot 20-4 start right out of the gate in his first two seasons as a major college head coach in 1991 and 1992. He led the program until a 6-6 mark in 2004, and in 2015 Syracuse was forced to vacate all of their wins from that season due to ineligible players. At UConn, Paul went 5-7 in 2011 and 2012 before an 0-4 start to the 2013 season (including a season opening loss to Towson and week four loss to Buffalo) led to his early season dismissal.

Before his time coordinating the defense in Detroit, Pasqualoni coached the defensive line at Boston College and had a handful of season working as a coordinator or assistant coach in the NFL with the Texans, Bears, Cowboys, and Dolphins.
