Yet another bowl game is coming, to yet another non-traditional football venue.
The ACC and American will partner to launch a bowl game at Boston's Fenway Park beginning in 2020, according to a report Tuesday from Stadium's Brett McMurphy.
Boston will join a second Los Angeles bowl game and Myrtle Beach as new bowls for the 2020 season, bringing the total to 43.
The as-yet-unnamed Fenway Park bowl game will be college football's third postseason contest in a Major League Baseball venue. The New York Yankees host the Pinstripe Bowl, pitted between the Big Ten and the ACC. The Pinstripe Bowl launched in 2010; Wisconsin trounced Miami 35-3 in the 2018 game.
The Cheez-It Bowl is also played in a baseball stadium -- the Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field.
Fenway has a long history of hosting football venues, dating back to 1916. Boston College has played a number of games at Fenway over the years, and the stadium played host to a number of Boston's professional teams. The New England Patriots, then known as the Boston Patriots, called Fenway home from 1963 through '68.
Recently, Fenway hosted a Boston College vs. Notre Dame game in 2015 and a Harvard vs. Yale game last season.
