While other teams are going through the process with their head coaching candidates, the Jacksonville Jaguars have had a clear favorite going back to even before they had an official opening with Urban Meyer as the target.
According to reports this morning, including one from Adam Schefter, not only is Meyer highly interested in the job, but the two sides are working on finalizing a deal this week.
The two sides met again on Wednesday.
Urban has also talked with the Chargers about their opening, but talks have not progressed in the same way they have with the Jaguars as Tom Pelissero shared this morning, and the job in Jacksonville is Urban’s if he wants it.
Over a week ago, while it was almost immediately disputed, a report was shared that Urban, who has battled health issues and pointed to that as the primary reason for stepping away in Columbus, was looking for about $12 million a year to come back to coaching.
While Urban has countless connections in the NFL, this would the lifelong college coaching veteran’s first job of any kind in the league. At the college level, Urban in 187-32 as a head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State.
