Report: Michigan assistant interviewing with Urban Meyer (Featured)

Michigan assistants leaving Ann Arbor and linking up with Urban Meyer may be a sore topic, so reading that headline may be painful for some. A few years ago, Greg Mattison and Al Washington both left the Michigan defensive staff for Columbus and rival Ohio State's staff, which definitely ruffled the feathers of some of the Wolverine faithful on the other end of the heated rivalry.

Now it appears that may once again be a possibility, except this time Urban is in Jacksonville instead of Columbus.

According to a report from Jason La Canfora, Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary is interviewing for the linebackers job on the Jaguars staff. For what it's worth, Jean-Mary is a native of Apopka, Florida.

The addition of Jean-Mary would reunite him with Charlie Strong, who he previously coached under at Louisville, Texas, and USF. He was a finalist for the FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year award at Louisiville in 2013.

Jean-Mary has also coached at South Carolina and Georgia Techas well, and began his coaching career at Louisville as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning.

While Pete Thamel previously reported that Strong, who is expected to have the assistant head coach title, would likely coach the linebackers, the addition of Jean-Mary could mean Urban has some other plans.

Urban's defensive staff is shaping up to be strong, with plenty of college football ties to it.

Reports over the weekend shared that Urban was expected to hire former Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi as his defensive line coach to go along with one of his first reported hires to the staff in former Texas defensive coordinator and former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash as a defensive assistant.

As Urban's staff continues to take shape, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
