Report: Pep Hamilton returns to NFL (NFL)

Pep Hamilton is returning to the NFL as the LA Chargers' quarterbacks coach, according to multiplereports.

Hamilton will be tasked with developing the franchise's biggest investment since the move from San Diego to Los Angeles: quarterback Justin Herbert, whom the club took with the No. 6 overall pick in last week's draft. Herbert will be the Bolts' first quarterback since trading for Philip Rivers in 2004.

Hamilton worked most recently as the head coach of the XFL's DC Defenders, leading the team to a 2-2 record before the season was suspended and the league shut down due to the coronavirus.

Prior to that, he spent 2017-18 as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Michigan. He has previously coached quarterbacks for the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns, and served as the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.

Hamilton's first coaching job came as the quarterbacks coach at Howard in 1997 after playing for the Bison from 1993-96.
