Pursued by Auburn, Billy Napier has chosen to stay at Louisiana Lafayette (Featured)

After drawing interest at Auburn, it appears Billy Napier is electing to stay put at Louisiana Lafayette.

The school has announced the decision

The release reads, in part:

"Billy Napier is committed to being the head coach of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns moving forward. Amidst recent speculation and media reports, the Louisiana department of athletics is confirming that coach Napier will continue to lead the Ragin' Cajuns football program."

The decision would mean that Auburn would join programs like South Carolina and Mississippi State in recent hiring cycles that Napier has been in the mix for, but ultimately opted to stay put.

Napier is 27-11 in three season at ULL, including a 9-1 mark this season and an 11-3 finish in 2019 that has captured the attention of some really intriguing Power Five head coaching openings.

Napier is the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt, and inked a two-year contract extension back in January. That deal pays him a base salary of $880,000 this year and escalates to $950,000 in its final year in 2025.
