As Josh Heupel continues to build his staff, it appears he's bringing a Group of Five offensive coordinator on board to coach his running backs.
Pete Thamel tweets that Rice offensive coordinator Jerry Mack is expected to head to Knoxville as running backs coach.
Mack also held additional titles of associate head coach and quarterbacks coach on Mike Bloomgren's staff.
Mack is the former head coach at North Carolina Central (FCS), where he led the program for four seasons. Over those four years, he compiled a record of 31-15 as one of the youngest head coaches at the Division I level.
Prior to North Carolina Central, Mack coached the receivers at South Alabama, and has also coached at Memphis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas, Jackson State, and Delta State.
Dating back to 2009, Mack has taken part in five internships with the NFL, including with the Jets, Bills, Texans, and Dolphins.
The move would mark the 35th offensive coordinator change at the FBS level for the season.
