According to multiple reports Wednesday, Toledo is set to promote offensive coordinator Jason Candle to head coach.
An introductory press conference is slated for later today, Strack reports.
Candle followed much the same path as the man he replaces -- new Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell -- to the head job at Toledo. He spent six seasons at Mount Union, then arriving at Toledo in 2009 alongside Campbell. Candle coached wide receivers and tight ends until ascending to offensive coordinator upon Campbell's appointment as head coach in 2012.
Together, the pair guided Toledo to a 34-15 mark over the past four seasons.
This season, the 10-2 Rockets ranked third in the MAC in scoring, second in rushing, fifth in passing, and third in both total offense and yards per play.
With the move, Toledo becomes the ninth FBS program to fill its head coaching vacancy. Eleven jobs remain open at this time.
