Reports: Penn State losing a coordinator to Urban Meyer and the NFL

Penn State co-offensive coordinator / tight ends coach Tyler Bowen has spent just three seasons as a full-time assistant coach on the staff after earning his way onto James Franklin's on-field staff after starting as a graduate assistant with the program in 2014.

Bowen, an AFCA 35 Under 35 selection a few years ago, has been a fast riser in the profession, as he added the title of co-offensive coordinator after the 2019 season.

That rapid rise is continuing to the NFL, according to reports.

Multiple reports state that Bowen, who also served as the offensive recruiting coordinator on staff, is leaving Happy Valley to join Urban Meyer's staff in Jacksonville.

Sean Fitz was among the first to share the news, adding that Bowen will coach the tight ends in Jacksonville. Adam Rittenberg has followed up with a report of the same.

So far, Urban's NFL staff on offense looks to be led by two former offensive coordinators in former Lions play caller Darrell Bevell (as offensive coordinator) and former Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer (as pass game coordinator). In his three time at Penn State, Bowen has learned under guys like Joe Moorhead and Kirk Ciarrocca, so he will bring a fresh perspective from some really good offensive minds at the college level.
