Salary details for Nick Saban's new coordinators at Alabama (Alabama)

Nick Saban has a handful of new coaches on his staff heading into his 17th season with the Crimson Tide, including two new coordinators.

Details released today from Tuscaloosanews.com share salary information for new additions Kevin Steele (DC), Tommy Rees (OC) and Robert Bala (ILBs), as well as returning coaches who will be operating under new deals.

Steele and Rees both have deals worth $1.9 million in base salary that run through February 28th, 2026. 

Both coordinators got raises from what Alabama was paying their predecessors.

Former offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who was still being paid the Texans after being fired, was making $1.1 million last season, while former defensive coordinator Pete Golding was making $1.73 in base salary.

Bala will make $350k coaching the inside linebackers, and his deal runs through February 2025.

The following returning coaches signed new deals that take them through February 2025 as well, with tight ends coach Joe Cox earning the biggest bump in pay, going up $100k (from $325k to $425k).

Overall, the salary pool for Nick Saban's group of 2023 assistant coaches is at $9.17 million, nearly a $1 million bump from last year's pool of $8.36.

Steve Berkowitz points out the $9.17 million salary poolbeats out college football's largest salary pool from 2022, which was Ohio State's $8.833 million.
