Sources: Sam Houston making bold defensive coordinator hire (Abilene Christian)

Elements of this coaching cycle are shaping up to be the year of young coaches.

After seeing early-30s coaches Billy Cosh and Mike Willis land FCS head coaching positions, as well as Dane Stevens become the sport’s second-youngest offensive player-caller, Skyler Cassity is helming the defensive banner.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Cassity is exiting his role as Abilene Christian defensive coordinator to take over the top defensive role at Sam Houston State.

The move will make the 29-year-old Cassity among the youngest coordinators in all of FBS. Sam Houston started its FCS to FBS transition a year ago.

Cassity coached multiple seasons at Texas Tech, working with the Red Raiders’ linebackers before moving joining the staff at Missouri State where he coached outside linebackers, nickels and safeties.

An Auburn graduate who started working in the Tigers recruiting department, Cassity also has worked at Texas State.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest coaching news.
