When the dominoes start to fall all around you, it's only natural to ponder if you will be the next one to fall.
When those "dominoes" are SEC head coaches that have lost their jobs (Jimbo Fisher and Zach Arnett), and you're staring at a 3-7 season, that domino analogy is suddenly much more real.
That's where Sam Pittman finds himself with two games remaining in their season (vs FIU and then home against 11th ranked Missouri)
Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks won 3 games in his debut season of 2020, followed by a breakout 9-4 campaign and bowl victory in year two. Year three was another solid season, going 7-6 with another bowl win, but this year hasn't met the expectations of the Razorback faithful.
Asked at his weekly presser how he blocks out the noise surrounding his job security. Does he address it with the team, or opt not to?
"I think it's hard to block out all noise," Pittman responded, after saying how good of a question it was. "We've got a job to do and that is to get prepared each and every week."
"When Jamie and I got here, we planned on coaching here until whatever that date was when we were going to go down to Hot Springs and call it a day, and I'm not close to that year right now, and the plan is to get this program back to where it deserves to be and stick here for as long as we can."
Pittman goes on to share that a lot of the negative stuff effects recruiting more than anything else.
"I know what's going on. Hunter Yurachek knows what is going on. But no one else really does. It's just opinion about what is going on...but it affects our recruits so we spent a lot of time on that yesterday."
"My job is to get ready for FIU. I'm not worried about my job security at all. I think I'm the guy for the university and I want to stay here a long time."
Pittman took over the Razorbacks program when it was arguably as low as it gets following Chad Morris' 0-14 winless SEC run and has done a lot to revitalize the program. He lost Kendal Briles to TCU and replaced him with Dan Enos, but after the offense struggled mightily Enos was dismissed mid-season and Kenny Guiton was given the reigns to in a move that (at least temporarily) revitalized the Razorbacks on offense.
The offensive vision for the Razorbacks, and getting the right guy in place to run the offense may be critical in Pittman getting more time in Fayetteville.
